First...$99 to camp all week is a pretty good deal when you consider the concerts are free. I loved the bands, but would like to see more live music. Like several bands all day by the pool. Loved how they offered bikers a free cab home. Class act! The GM, Dave I believe his name was even stopped by our camp and asked if there was anything we could change, what would it be...well here you go...
WTF are kids doing there? I would bet most people come to Sturgis looking to leave that part of their lives at home. No work, no kids...just bikers doing what bikers do!
Why are there attendants at the bathrooms asking for tips. I can see having attendants there, but these people are like vultures. The one lady even told my girlfriend and I that she was not having a good tip day but she was hoping it would get better. Very uncomfortable! Clean bathrooms should be included in the price. I will tip the bartenders, but not bathroom attendants.
Cell charging stations...need them or need to advertise where they are...I thought there was supposed to be one, but couldnt' find it! Perhaps several charging stations around the grounds. Maybe at the bathrooms...
Water pressure in the toilets...showers were fine..but need more water pressure and better toilets. I would need to stay in the bathroom flushing 3-4 times. Not all did this! Nasty!!!
Shuttle to Sturgis stops at midnight...run it till 1/2 hour past the last bar closing...
Drop the no nudity rule...how stupid! This is Sturgis...THE biggest biker rally...there must be bikes, beer, and boobs! The three B's...and you can quote me on that!
Stock the general store to the gills.
Provide free coffee at the charging stations. Coffee is cheap and a good way to help hung over bikers wake up and be safe on their day's ride.
Maybe a biker breakfast in the main building. $5 all you can eat. That would be a huge hit and could make some bucks.
Well, there you have it. Feedback after a week at Broken Spoke Campground... |

Totally agree. Most of these changes would have to occur before we would come back. I never tipped the attendants. As a matter of principle, the entry fee should include a clean bathroom. Add $10 to the fee if need be. No nudity?? What a joke. There must be some laws requiring that, but you need to get around them. The swimming hole at the chip has bands, serves alcohol, and doesn't care. Maybe that's because it's Maybe it's because that's not public for anyone driving by. So make the Spoke pool that way. Campers only. Whatever it takes, that needs to get fixed. And more food vendors. It wasn't all bad. It has potential. But it needs work to get us back. |

One thing that I can add is to number your lots on the electrical terminals for campers. We requested a tank dump and the guy never showed up. He told us to put a orange cone in front of our camper. We didnt have a orange cone so we put up catioun tape all over the front window and he still didnt get to it. If they are numbered as you leave for the day stop by the office and request your lot number be emptied and they write it down???? This is how campgrounds usually do it. Other than that I didnt mind tipping the shower folks they did a great great job!!!!
I agree with the kids part. I only went to the pool one day myself do to other circumstances but I agree Sturgis is not for children... If their parents are not smart enough to keep them from that then the Broken Spoke should step up and tell them ABSOLUTELY NO CHILDREN!!!! It isnt fair to the crazy ass adults trying to have fun.... |

I agree with you guys The Spoke needs some improvement in some areas. I noticed the shower house attendants weren't around in the mornings to clean the showers I found out later that the whole crew was staying at a campground down the road and couldn't get a ride to the BS until later, I suggest go in the mornings and pick these people up on the BS shuttle so everyone one would have nice clean shower in the mornings. The idea of having an all you can eat breakfast in the mornings sounds great hell I paid 7.00 at the high school there in town I'd surely pay for at the spoke. That way I wouldn't have to hear my buddies saying their hungry 50 damn times lets go eat. They could walk their happy asses down there and eat. The store could have been stocked better hell all I saw was about 2 cases of comdoms and those 5 hour energy drinks on the same shelf what the hell! They should make the pool area for 18 and up only come one folks leave your kids at your campsite at least, most of us drive a long way (1700 miles) and are there for the adult fun and activities so please let us have our fun. |

As I said in another thread I'm pretty sure the 2 boys in the pool belonged to the owner/manager. I saw their mother (pregnant) talking and then hugging and kissing the guy that was there all week that appeared to be running things. I agree with what everyone has said, the kids have got to go! Let them swim the other 51 weeks of the year or don't advertise it as a biker pool. I know when I was there one afternoon there was a woman in a less than conservative swim suit and the boys just stared. Totally inappropriate and I hope the manager/owner reads this forum and gets the hint. As for the dining choices, we were in an RV with a full kitchen and I cooked every day but the people in the cabins across the road from us did complain that there was no food available in the mornings. I'm not sure when breakfast was served but I do know they left every day around 7:00 or 8:00 and they did not get to eat before they left. I could have sworn I saw an advertisement on the website that there would be food vendors 24 hours a day and that just wasn't the case. As for the RV lots, I also felt they had a lot to be desired. The knee high grass was a pain and for $500 for a spot for a week I would think they could have mowed before hand. We just tried to pull our bikes up in a different spot each day to trample down the grass. The last constructive criticism I have was how long it took to get the RV tanks dumped. We had to wait a day and a half to get that done. I think they either need more people there doing it or at least have all the people that are there willing to do it. We were told by this one truck that only one truck was there to empty the RV's, all the rest were for something else...what? I have no idea.
As for whether or not we will be back, I think yes we will. Overall the positive aspects outweighed the negative. We plan on coming back for the 75th so I'm hoping in 6 more years the Spoke figures some stuff out and it just gets better and better every year so by the time we get there again it will be perfect! |

The nudity thing had nothing to do with the law. The spoke is private property. It had to do with the boneheads that had kids there. If kids will be back, I won't. |

I still think its funny that when the one litttle girl asked her mom why there was a naked girl balloon (my blow up doll) in the pool, and why there was money in her crotch..........HHHHMmmmmmmmm, well I figured she asked for it!!! ENOUGH SAID!!!!!!!!!! |

I didnt mind the entry fee and I did enjoy the bands. Thought the child thing and no nudity sucked. It really wasnt a party it was a event. So if you want to attend a event then you should go back next year. I prefer a party. Also law enfore=cement has about ruined Sturgis, certainly not like the old days . hell they were writing tickets to bikers who did not have both hands on the handlebars....claimed it was exhibition riding. Was pretty dull i thought. |

Jim, where sould we go next year? I heard that Glenco wasn't that great either, but I didn't hear that they had a kid problem. The Chip is always good albeit expensive. And they don't allow you to bring in any booze! What do you suggest? I'll keep reading the posts on other sites, and if I get some ideas, I'll let everyone know. We need an adult party that we can really let loose. |

i was told by some friends who stayed at glencoe that it was a great time as always........tittie alley was going, NO KIDS UNDER 18 ARE ALLOWED, the food vendors were fantastic, decent bands, any type of camping you want (shaded, field, rv, etc), all the nudity you could want, a true party atmosphere......all they lacked was the pool but there were a ton of portable pools people brought which is always a blast.......all in all it sounds like it was the place to be....... |

So I guess all of us horrible, child sheltering, non-adventures, people agree! However ther is ONE (rusty nail) forum member that brought their 16 year old daughter as a "babysitter"HOLY $hit JESUS!!! I guess the majority agrees.....Flame away. |

And I think that you may have spent more time in the pool riding that blow-up doll than you did riding your bike. But that's just my opinion. |
8/18/09 8:30 PM |
| FAT6 |
opinions are valuable lessons. And although I did get plenty of H2o time,my riding time fell nothing short of spectacular. As a veteran rider Ive kinda earned the right to do everything with no regrets. Dont worry, with experience, comes k nowledge, you'll get there. |
8/19/09 3:39 AM |
| flygirlmedic |
I guess it all depends on what you want out of the experience. For me as a first timer to Sturgis and the Spoke I had a great time. Nudity is over rated, and not the reason I came. I came to enjoy the people, the rides, the parties and the over all enjoyment of getting away from home and the kids and work. I think the Spoke with continue to grow in the future. If you want a rip roaring party then maybe it is not the place for you. But I think if you want a place to hang out, meet new people, enjoy some great music and have a nice way to relax after a hard days ride then the Spoke is the place. Each to ones own.... I have had my share of wild parties and as I get older it gets harder to recover in the mornings. So if the Spoke doesn't have what you want by all means look else where, but don't write it off yet.... You never know what the future may hold. If people keep coming back then new traditions will be started. Do you think Glencoe started out the way it is now..Probably not. The Spoke is young, give it time to grow.. I think the owners are on the right track... |
8/19/09 7:29 AM |
| mikev |
flygirl......you are so correct.....traditions take time to develop......and people........the more you come back, the bigger it will get.........i've been to glencoe 8 times and the friendships we made are fantastic......the things we did that carried on to the following years were some of the funnest times i've ever had.........from what all i've read from those who were there, it sounds like the biggest issue is the young kids.......i can understand some of the more family type campgrounds allowing kids.......but the spoke?....it's a campground based around a bar.......noplace for kids.......i would surely guess that by not allowing kids,, they will see no reduction in their income........will probably increase as the adults see that it is a place for adult type of partying..... |

its rustygun, not rusty nail.your ego needs a check mate.when my 16 year old daughter wanted to know about the dumb ass that had the blow up doll, its was fun to tell her it was you. she then said that maybe you should have stayed hope with your grandma also, cause she thought it was quite child like and i also agreed |

First of all, people that bring "props" to an event/party,are usually craving for attention !
I personaly coudn't care less about a pool, but that was probably the reason for many of you to book with the BSC.
No kid's ,agree but define kid's ,by age or mindset.
Foodvendors, what was wrong ,just because it wasn't to your likeing, well you didn't come to the KOA.
Coffe in the morning ,i never had a problem to get some.
And breakfast, well the armforces had something going at the school for only 7$.
Nudity/tittially,no complains here ,i saw enough throughout the rally.
It just makes me laugh to read all this,'we want an adult-party but o dear, the grass isn't cut short enough,my septictank not pumped out in time, the pool is overcrauded and the bands not to my liking and there was always a lineup at the showers.
Simple answer ,go elsewhere.
I was involved for 6 years back in germany to put on events twice a year, and there was always someone that had to complain, but you keep doing what you thing the majority would like and go on .
I personaly had a great time, went on some rides with "our group"[left some for next year] wentured out on my own and had fun at Monkey Rock and the FTS.
Wich brings me to the las subject,"so called free beer hour",well a good drafted beer [0.3l] takes 7 min.,this on the side.
It was a given upfront that nobody will get drunk over "free beer hour ".
"Elsewhere "they had "halfprice bber for an hour or fre shooters.
So i would suggest ,at the Spoke ,2 hours half price beer.
And insted another Hottub,a "Burn out cage or Pipe",some Mudwrestling, some more "Bikergames " during the day ect.
Because thats what i call a party and just had the pleasure[last Weekend in Germay]to take part in .
Cheers all and feel free to shoot. |

Vixon....Piņatas...ring a bell?(was'nt it to be stuffed with adult sex trinkets) Wow, such discontent with the doll. I suppose Its to be expected. The idea was priceless! As far as rusty.....well there is still plenty of adult parties to drag your 16 year old to, you know to "babysit" (what a joke!) Dumdass is when everyone else sees a crime, but only one calls it out in the very beginning,as I did (and all but 2 or 3 agreed with you) Your call sign should be Pimp-gun! Obvious first timers, if you think a blow up doll in Sturgis is inappropriale, than you really missed the bus...... to Adventureland! I guess this thread should have been titled, "NO KIDS AT THE SPOKE"because 90% of the posts talk about it. I simply mentioned that an "individual" Oh never mind you know the story. wow pimp gun, thanks dumb ass. maybe some day when you grow up a little bit you will see what a ass you looked like in the pool with your blow up girlfriend, if its such a great idea why were you the only one with one ????? as for all your riding experience, its always the case that if you have to tell everyone how good you are, your not. after 41 years of riding i have learned one thing, you never stop learning. maybe when you grow up you will understand, but wait i forgot your a expert at everything. it must be tough chating with us. i hope you have over sized door in your house cause you will need them to get your fat head thru. the only joke is you. |

We don't care what the rationale for minors being in camp and at the pool; if they are allowed in '10, we won't be making a reservation. Management, What is the current status of allowing / disallowing minors at the Broken Spoke Campground, and the pool? |
11/12/09 10:19 AM |
| BrokenSpoke |
Minors will not be allowed this year. Please see an e-mail that I just sent to a very kind woman asking if her daughter could join the party:
Thank for your interest in the Broken Spoke Campground. Before I go into detail answering your questions of cost and pool hours, let's address the age of your daughter. It has been decided that we will not allow underage (- 18yo) to stay at the camp, or use the pool. In the past we left it up to the discretion of the parents as to whether they wanted to allow their children in a biker's party environment, but the feedback, and in fact hostility, from many of the patrons that objected to teens and children at the campground resounded so forcefully that we changed our policy. Although our campground is tame by comparison to many in the area, we cannot guarantee an appropriate atmosphere for one so young. And our customers feel that this is the one time of year they have to "let their hair down" and minors infringed upon their adult party.
I encourage you to look at one of the seasonal "family recreation" campgrounds that cater more to the touring across America families than the biker rally crowd.
With sincere regret,
|

I too will reserve a place. Once the Mgt. had a chance to look at the ridiculas concept of bringing in children to "ride the hills" and "see the attractions" it was only a matter of time before the idea was squashed. Most of use have enough commen sense to keep children away from this type of adult party, however it only takes one to drive the point home. We all have our own ideas for Sturgis, however exploiting young women (children) is definatly is not one of them..... |

thanks broken spoke for the update / action taken on the "minor " controversy. while i would never consider bringin my (underage) kiddos and those that do well it's their decision i would have felt better knowing that any of my activities were not being viewed by the underage in attendance. i also think that next year when selecting a "janitorial" service they should be paid a wage instead of the obligatory tip jars. or at least let me finish my business before trying to clean up! my biggest disappointment for the entire week was the poor sound quality during the concerts. it seemed that whoever was doin the sound was finally getting close by the time .38 special played. otherwise the entire experience was a positive one and not only will i be back but reservations have already been made for '10. see everyone there... |

Woody - we chose the cleaning service to work like they did because it has always been successful in the saloon and at other rallys. We hoped that we could just transfer the same idea to the campground bathrooms relieving us of alot of the work of supervising, double checking cleaning schedules, etc. It didn't work. We will go back to a regular cleaning shift for the bathrooms. I'll be happy to forward your forum post to those in charge of sound. Thanks for the input. |

Wow!! Can't we all just get along? I will throw my 2 cents in. This is not a place for kids, ok now that horse is dead quick kickin him he ain't gettin up! Thanks for working on the cleaning of bath houses. Band line up for next year looks great!!! Please no rap music at the pool. Thank you. Work with the other camp grounds in that area and push for another exit and road to the area to bypass Sturgis from the Interstate. One day we made the mistake of coming in late afternoon. About fried the engine on my bike waiting in traffic. Screw the town of Sturgis money grubbin bastards that they are. It would be nice to be able to plug in charger for my camera battery. Phone was off who the hell do I need to talk to? If your looking for the same thing as ..... you might as well go to that place. Sorry, from what I have seen the folks here are trying to do things thier own way, and doing a pretty good job so far. Made my reservation before we left for home. See ya in August. |

Just wanted to chime in on the nudism thing. From what I understand the County was cracking down on anyplace that serves alcohol and allows any kind of nudism. The Chip was also cracking down on nudism for the same reason. From what I heard, the County offered to sell a new license of some sort to campgrounds, etc. who wanted to allow some sort of nudity and serve alcohol after the rally was over. Just Meade County trying to get some more $! Wondering if anybody else had heard this and if The Spoke is planning on having this license this year...if this is true. |

Hey there Broken Spoke! Just starting to check the usual websites for 2010 and thought I'd add my view of staying at the campground. My wife and I stayed in one of the cabins for the full length, from Wednesday to the following Sunday. I rate the overall experience a b+, though we won't being staying there next year. 1. Glad to hear they changed the age policy to over 18. Very hard to get your freak on when there's a 10 year old boy starin' at the wife's tits. 2. Holy crap; the bathrooms!!! I felt like I was being mugged every time I had to pee! 3. Cabins; awesome! 4. Location- It's a haul from the campground to civilization and the cops are EVERYWHERE! Got pulled over for doing 4 miles an hour over! 5. Bartenders; HOT! THat's it. Been to Laconai, Daytona, Sturgis and met Jay many times along with a million other bikers. Nice guy, great time. Plan to stay a little closer to the action this year. Ride safe ya'll. |

-----BROKEN SPOKE----- would you consider putting stainless steel sinks outside the the Bathouses for the campers to do their dishes? I was at the Cherokee Rally in the fall and the Campground had large sinks outside the bathouse for everyone to use and it worked out great. After all we dont want anyone getting sick because they couldn't wash there dishes properly. That would really stink!!! Just a suggestion, hope you consider it!!! See you soon. Karen |
